I-225 Turf Conversion Project
The Goldsmith Metropolitan District has converted approximately 3 acres of non-functional turf along Interstate 225 to native grass. The project began in November of 2023 with the removal of 130,680 square feet of high-water use Kentucky bluegrass, followed by seeding of native grasses. The goal of this project is to conserve water and reduce maintenance costs for the Goldsmith Metropolitan District (aka Denver Technological Center). Non-functional turf, defined as turf areas that are ornamental and cannot be used for recreational activities, use water that can be better allocated to maintaining the parks throughout the District. The seeded native grass mix began germinating this spring, but due to unusually high temperatures in early summer the grasses did not grow in as expected. We are continuing to monitor the area and will reseed in the fall to meet the high standards of the Denver Technological Center.
The median redesign project along Orchard Road is another water wise project currently underway and will be finished later this summer.
